Digital Security: technology on the side of those who defend rights
A program so that social organizations, young women and LGBTQ+ people in Central America can use technology safely and to their advantage: digital protection, data governance, entrepreneurship with technology tools and artificial intelligence in the service of their communities.
Why it exists
The same technology that exposes can protect
Organizations defending rights in Central America now work online: they keep testimonies, participant lists and case records on computers and phones, communicate through messaging apps and publish on social media. That same exposure makes them vulnerable to online harassment, information theft and surveillance, in contexts where a leak can cost someone their safety.
At the same time, technology and artificial intelligence open real opportunities for the communities with the least access to them: small businesses sustained by digital tools, services that reach further with fewer resources, and better-informed decisions thanks to data that organizations already hold but do not always know how to use.
Digital Security was created in 2026 to answer both needs at once. It draws on Puntos de Encuentro's experience protecting communicators in the Central American Network, running Migrante App under security protocols and training the Network in ethical, feminist AI, and turns it into a training program open to other organizations.
What we do
Four lines of work
Practical training, in Spanish, designed for small teams with limited resources. Each line combines workshops, accompaniment and tools that organizations can apply from day one.
Data governance for NGOs
Which data to collect and which not to, how to store it, who can access it, how to honor the people who entrust it, and how to turn it into evidence for decision-making and accountability to donors and communities.
Building a business with technology
Accessible digital tools so that LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs and young women can organize, promote and sustain their productive projects: online presence, payments, management and customer communication.
AI for community development
Responsible, critical use of artificial intelligence in the everyday work of organizations and small businesses: what it can do, what its risks are, how to protect privacy and how to put it at the service of LGBTQ+ communities and women.

Latin American Workshop on Data Governance for NGOs
A training space for social organizations across Latin America on how to collect, protect, govern and use their data responsibly: internal policies, consent, information security and the use of evidence for advocacy and accountability.

Organizations, collectives and small businesses
The program is aimed at social organizations and collectives in Central America —with priority for those working with women, young people and LGBTQ+ people—, at LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs and at young women who want to sustain their projects with technology. No prior technical training is required.
Every gift to the Foundation funds hours of training, individual accompaniment, security tools and the production of open materials that remain available to the whole region.
